Emerald green hills dotted with dark green oak trees highlighted with purple lupine and accented with blue skies and white clouds were the visual highlights of my day. No I wasn’t dreaming; I was experiencing a slice of paradise riding on the Work Ranch Benefit Trail Ride. Sharon Jantzen shares her experience enjoying the Work Ranch Benefit Trail Ride.
“We deal with more emergency horse health situations now then when I first started my practice in 1982,” Dr Waldsmith explained, “because horse owners are staying isolated.” The SLO Horse Expo, coming up February 21, 2017 is designed to break the isolation. Sharon Jantzen gets us excited to be a part of the SLO Horse Expo.
The sensitive and accepting yet vulnerable and powerful nature of a horse can be used to provide healing and enrichment for humans from all walks of life. We call it “horse power”, and there are many wonderful programs where great things are happening through purposed horse interaction. Enjoy the stories of miracles happening every time a horse interacts with a human in a variety of Therapeutic Riding programs and Equine Assisted Therapy programs in SLO County.
Lyle Thomas is absolutely hooked on being a part of the SLO Sheriff’s Posse unit. He recognizes the unique team approach the horse offers to the Search and Rescue operation. “The horse is the first to sense something different. Horses have more acute vision, hearing and scent and seem to know when someone is up ahead before we do.” Sharon Jantzen meets up with Lyle at a local event and brings us the excitement, fun and camaraderie of the SLO Sheriff’s Posse unit.
The annual Poker Ride at Montana de Oro State Park, held over Columbus Day weekend, invites equestrians from throughout the state to join the Coast Mounted Assistance for a relaxing weekend of camping and fun. Camping begins at noon on Thursday October 6th through Monday October 10th. The Poker Ride is held on Sunday, October 9th.
