If you could be part of a documentary about riding on California ranches, while camping and riding on the Work Ranch in San Miguel, would you jump on the chance? Well get yourself signed up! The producers of the national television show, The Best of America on Horseback, is coming to the Work Ranch, March 16-18,2020. You and your horse plus friends and family with their horses can be a part of the action and fun.
The Best of America on Horseback crew will be coming all the way out from Virginia to capture the tales, history and riding footage on two long-standing California family ranches here in SLO County, The V6 Ranch and the Work Family Ranch. The Work Ranch is inviting you to be a part of their story.
Camping and Riding on the Work Ranch
All riders will be dry camping on the Work Ranch and will be riding their horses or rent one from the Work Ranch. There are a limited number of rental horses available. Campers and their horses will arrive Monday afternoon, March 16, and set up camp. Participants will ride and the producers will film Tuesday morning and again Tuesday afternoon. The last ride out is Wednesday at 10:00 am.

Food and Fun Make the Experience
The Backcountry Horseman of Los Padres will be featured on this experience as well. They are providing a camp-cooked breakfast & lunch Tuesday and breakfast on Wednesday morning. Lunch will also be provided upon the return on the last ride out on Wednesday. Work Ranch is providing a delicious BBQ dinner Tuesday night. Entertainment to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is planned for Tuesday night. The Backcountry Horseman will be offering presentations about riding and packing in the backcountry in between the rides and meals. Participants will be treated to some truly awesome Dutch oven cooking.
Where will Campers Stay and Ride?
Horseback riders will be camping at a beautiful spot on the Work Ranch. Corrals for all horses can be provided. All rides will start out from the campground and cover terrain where the views are simply awesome. One ride provides a 360-degree view of the Cholame Valley and Parkfield, over to Paso, and down the coast. The Work Ranch family calls it Earthquake Ridge.
The campground area is four miles North of the Work Ranch Family headquarters. There is lots of room for all types of camping rigs: LQ trailers, RV’s, campers, tents, sleeping under the stars . . . everything. A few port-a-potties will be set up. The camping is primitive however, generators for rigs are welcome but must be turned off by 9:30pm and not turned on before 6am. This is a dry camp so no hook-ups are available. Water buckets for horses will be in the provided non-covered stalls. You must call and request a stall if you don’t have your own portable corrals. A water truck for horse water will be at the site. Campers must bring feed for their own horses.

Details of the Work Ranch Camp and Ride for The Best of America on Horseback
Come join the fun March 16-18, 2020. Check-in on Monday starts at 3:00 pm and check-out is Wednesday, March 18 after lunch. This is your chance to ride on a private ranch while being filmed for a national television show. Anyone who enjoys camping with their horse and exploring new trails is welcome to come along. The camping spot on the private Work Ranch is sure to delight as wildlife abounds. Guests must have horses that can handle riding with a large group of horses. The ride can take upwards of 30-plus horses and riders.
Ready to get going? Here are the fees and sign-up instructions:
Fee to Best of America on Horseback: $175 (that is how they pay for the filming). To get in on the action, you sign up initially with Best of America by Horseback, then call Kelly Work (phone number below) to reserve a camp spot, and a stall, and/or a Ranch horse if needed.
Fee to Work Ranch: $25/2 nights of camping and $15/stall fee (or bring your own portable corrals).
Fee to Reserve a Ranch Horse: $150 to reserve a Ranch horse.
