Ralph Covell, owner of the ranch, took me on a driving tour of the property. As we meandered our way through the herds of Clydesdales, he could look at any of the horses and tell me its name, the sire/dam, offspring, and if the horse had any previous show experience. The conversation we started in the truck we carried onto the trail. Along the way we marveled at the vista views of the lake and surrounding foothills, the moss-draped oak trees providing frequent shade canopies, and the wildlife sharing the environment with us. We were our own group of three taking advantage of the very first Equestrian Discovery Day on the Pismo Preserve organized by the Land Conservancy.
