I watched as she galloped my horse back down the hill, with no sign of fear. This got me thinking, why couldn’t I handle this spooky horse with the level of confidence that she had? Am I a bad rider? After all my years of riding, am I just not that good? Chanel Jensen explores ways of building confidence on horseback.
Currently an agricultural communications student at Cal Poly SLO. Chanel grew up in Colorado with her two horses, Thunder and Buddy. She is currently horseless in California, so she takes advantage of Cal Poly's various horse programs. "I am so excited to be riding with SLO Horse News!"

The new Cal Poly Horse Unit, officially known as the Oppenheimer Family Equine Center, will be unveiled Friday June 1, 2018 with an open house and will include food, drinks, a live band, barn tours, and horse demonstrations. The next day will be the always anticipated Performance Horse Sale, where Cal Poly bred and student-trained two-year-old performance horses will be shown and auctioned.
