Grant to Improve Trail in Garcia Wilderness

Two miles of a badly eroded and overgrown trail in the Garcia Wilderness east of Arroyo Grande will be repaired using funds from a recently approved grant.

The $5,173 project grant was issued through the Stewards for Trails Education and Partnerships program to improve trail riding across the United States. STEP allows groups and individuals to submit proposals for trail conservation projects nationwide at http://ridegreen.aqha.com/ .

Tractor Supply Co. said it will provide funding for the project through an American Quarter Horse Association trail conservation program.

Managed by the Back Country Horsemen of California Los Padres Unit, the project will involve rebuilding the treadway and constructing water diversion structures on the hiking and riding trail.

The Back Country Horsemen of California Los Padres Unit is dedicated to conserving wilderness and maintaining and managing public land. For more information, visit www.bchc-lpunit.org.
