Richard Waller of Los Padres Back Country Horsemen is planning a September 15 work party on 3 miles of the Upper Lopez Canyon trail. This will be on the private land between the locked gate at Big Falls Trailhead and the wilderness boundary. The current trail needs to be realigned and brushed; it is unpleasant at this time to ride a horse up that section of trail. Saturday will be spent working on the trail primarily brushing, and a section of widening a particularly dangerous 20 feet of trail.
If we have not had measurable rain and/or the end of fire season, this will be a gas powered tool-less project (clippers, hand saws, and possibly electric chainsaws). This will be a project in which you are likely to get wet feet.
The gate will be open and there is a narrow section on the road in, so trailers are not advisable, and small trucks will be better than large trucks. The group will assemble in a clearing a half mile in.
Please note, this is not a good horse trip, The truck and trailer would need to be parked at the entrance to the Canyon at the intersection of Waters End and Upper Lopez Canyon Road with a 4 mile ride to the assembly area.
