What is Gymkhana?

The name literally means, games on horseback, but for a more descriptive definition we went to the California Gymkhana Association Website: “Gymkhana is timed obstacle racing on horseback. It is one of the most exciting family oriented equestrian sports in the world. It is a fast-growing sport for anyone to enjoy.

The California Gymkhana Association offers riders an opportunity to participate in shows throughout California. Riders may earn a variety of awards while participating in the 13 events. Some events favor speed, and some events favor skill. Awards may be earned at all skill levels, from Future Champion to Hall of Fame!”

Everyone gets involved. All events are family friendly where everyone can compete in divisions based on speed and ability instead of age. All efforts – whether riding or supporting roles – are appreciated. The Make It or Break It Gymkhana Saddle Show will have a raffle for the volunteers.  Every person who judges, announces, writes times, sets up poles or barrels or shags a ball gets entered to win a raffle prize.
